Our farm in Nessona Larissa is offered as a space for experimentation and education, but at the same time houses our community and offers us self-sufficiency in energy, food and raw materials. Below are presented our buildings, our cultivation practices and the spatial layout of all parts of our estate.

The old farm – Natural Farming

The oldest part of our farm, and the one that includes all our building facilities; It is four acres of land where for 30 years hundreds of trees, bushes and plants are planted from seed using Masanobu Fukuoka’s method and they have co-exists. In addition, all of our structures, from our small houses and our lake to the majestic Red House, are scattered throughout this space. The ecosystem has fully found its balance and generously offers, without any intervention of ours, its shade and fruits. All our social activities, all the memories of our guests, as well as all the most beautiful moments of our lives, are housed in this small piece of land.

The experimental farm – Syntropic Farming

Our second farm, a long narrow field of only two acres in area located next to the old one, has been our experimental site for the last 5 years. In contrast to the randomness of the former, here the plantings for efficient management are linear, very dense, and combine rows of fruit trees, rows of forest trees and vegetable beds in a very carefully planned system. Until the trees grow and shade the entire land of the estate, the area between them is used to grow vegetables that feed our community or that are sold directly to consumers in Larissa. The field produces its own fertilizer through intensive pruning of the forest (supporting) plants, which eventually as they grow will be removed to make room for the fruit trees.

The productive farm – Regenerative Agriculture

In addition to the other two L-shaped properties, the third field is an existing nine-acre, 4-year-old almond grove that was grown organically by the previous owner. Almonds are the most widespread crop in the wider area of Sykouri, Larissa. We focus on converting this almond grove (classic 5×5 planting system) into a regenerative farm, adding many plants, trees and bushes to the existing system, as well as completely avoiding mineral fertilizers and spraying, without a drop in production. If this experiment is successful, this estate can serve as a model for surrounding farmers to incorporate elements of regenerative agriculture into their own fields. Finally, cob.gr’s favorite product, Nessona almond butter, is produced on this estate.

The new farm – The Ecovillage

The latest acquisition of cob.gr is an area of fifteen acres a little further from the rest of the fields, with hundreds of almond trees that are nearing the end of their lives. Our team chose this area as the point for the establishment of a small Village (nesson.gr) which will be inhabited by people with an appetite and passion for a natural way of living. The space will be divided into smaller plots and the old trees will give way to the houses of the Ecovillage residents, the streets, the squares, the gardens and their edible forests. The buildings will be made entirely of natural materials, with each house having some basic functions and many others such as power generation, laundry and kitchen being shared and centrally located.
