Straw-clay house in Volos

In the district of Palea in Volos, in an area under the protection of the Greek archaeological service, we completed the construction of a contemporary urban house with a wooden structural frame and straw-clay walls. The owner and architect, Vana Georgala, was seeking to bring to the foreground certain building techniques and materials that have a long tradition in the area of Thessaly but have now been mostly forgotten. She thus combined natural building with the principles of bioclimatic architecture, creating a healthy and beautiful habitat for herself and others.
