We focus on innovative solutions centered around construction, agriculture and energy autonomy.
We teach and consult those who seek to live a comfortable life in harmony with nature.

Build, farm and safeguard your future.

Events

We organize hands-on workshops on various techniques related to natural building, permaculture and alternative technology. We also sometimes host large-scale events like festivals or long-term educational activities, in collaboration with organizations passionate about alternative ways of living.

Services

Cob.gr is the oldest natural building group in Greece. We design and construct homes out of natural materials, create regenerative ecosystems and implement alternative, sustainable technologies both within Greece and abroad. Our projects are led by a team of experienced engineers, agronomists and craftsmen, with the ultimate goal of weaving together the built environment and the natural world.

Our base is located in Nesson, a village in Larissa, central Greece, and we welcome everyone who wishes to experience a truly regenerative lifestyle. In addition, if someone wishes to contribute to our mission through their labor and experitse while learning how to adopt more sustainable living practices, they can do so by applying for a volunteering position on our farm.

Frequently asked questions

1. Are natural buildings affected by weather conditions? Are they durable? Do they require maintenance?

Buildings constructed properly out of natural materials are suitable for all weather conditions. The maintenance requirements are the same as in conventional construction.

2. Can building permits be issued for natural buildings? What about insurance, property tax etc?

Natural buildings require the same building permits and bureaucratic processes as conventional buildings, and carry the same tax obligations.

3. How much does it cost to build a natural building?

The cost of any building is hard to assess without defining the factors that influence it. A home in Greece can cost anywhere from 600€ to 1000€ per square meter, including materials, labor and permits. The cost of a building is mostly influenced by the design choices, the quotes given by local contractors and tradesmen, the choice of materials and whether or not the owners wish to participate in the build. In general, given that for most projects the materials (natural or otherwise) constitute only a small part of the overall budget, the best way to assess a natural building’s cost is to consult an engineer proficient in the use of natural materials throughout the design and building process.

4. How long does it take to build a natural building?

In general, the same amount of time required for a conventional building. The factors that influence the construction time are usually related to budget constraints, worksite management and labor coordination, as opposed to the materials themselves.

5. Can you build anywhere? Do you supply your own work force? What is your strategy from beginning to completion?

We can build anywhere, both in Greece and abroad, and it is one of our main activities as an organization. We can either assist owner-builders, coordinate groups of friends or volunteers, or provide our own skilled labor. In any case, the only part of the project we undertake is that which is related to natural materials and construction, permaculture design or alternative technologies.

6. Do you also provide landscape design services?

Outside of the field of natural buildings, we also design productive agricultural ecosystems based on the principles of permaculture and regenerative agriculture. We also implement these designs on-site, and our approach is adapted to include almost any climate in the world. This approach to landscape design includes water management earthworks (harvesting, storage and overflow) integrated with road and structure placement, food forests and rotational grazing operations.
